A facelift of immense value, given to the Ramble police station on Labour Day last has filled the men and women of the Police Force there with great pride.
Following the selection of that facility by Hanover Parish Council as the parish project, Chairman of the Parish Council and the Labour Day organizing committee, Mayor Shernet Haughton outlined details of the project, at a meeting of civic and community leaders, held at the Lucea Town Hall.
“It gives me great pleasure,” Mayor Haughton noted, “to extend the support of the Parish Council to the security needs of the parish.” In continuing, she said, “Security does not fall under the immediate portfolio of the Parish Council, however, no one can deny that the police deserve this type of support at this time.”
She emphasized that this year’s theme: “Take a Stand, Beautify our Land” fitted in perfectly with the selection of the police station, since the facelift would also give the community an improved appearance. She further added that after site visits to the Lucea hospital and Sandy Bay Primary & Junior High school, the police station was selected, since the hospital was at present being given massive refurbishment and expansion, which was already making every one proud. She added that the Sandy Bay Primary and Junior High school was in the recent past given some support.
Volunteers at the Labour Day project were unanimous in their support of the police station project, and Councillor Wynter McIntosh said he was very happy for the selection of the project. He noted that the police station which is located in the division he represents served the men and women who worked at the station, however, the building also served the public at large, as well as residents of the surrounding communities and visitors to the parish, from home and abroad.
Councillor McIntosh praised Mayor Haughton for her response to the needs of the station, although admitting that there were quite a number of other deserving areas.
